Laptop Computer

Item

A work or school-issued laptop has a wide array of uses. It can function as a digital notebook, a research tool, and a method for hacking into other systems remotely.

Only you can access the computer unless you decide to share the password. Others can attempt to guess the password or exploit security to access it with the right skills.

The Advanced Smartphone provides internet service to your computer whenever it has full service, and automatically transfers photos and recordings to it.

You spend at least 5 minutes researching a topic online via smartphone or computer to gather information. Make a Research (Technology) check. The difficulty of each piece of information is set by the GM. Any information you find may be saved to your phone so you don't have to look it up again later.

Failure: You can't find anything relevant.
Critical Failure: You find information that is inaccurate.

Take a Photo

You take a photo of something in your environment using your phone camera. You choose whether or not to use the flash.

The laptop only has a front-facing camera, but its microphone can be used with the lid closed.

Record a Video

You record a video of something in your environment. You choose whether or not to use the camera light.

Sound is captured on the video as the person recording heard it. The video can be any length as long as your battery lasts.

Send a Multimedia Message

You send one photo or up to 30 seconds of audio or video to anyone in your contacts list.

Discharge: 4%

Media messages that fail to send due to poor service will send automatically the next time you have service.

Record Audio

You record audio from your environment. The sound will be recorded as a person would have heard it at that location. You can begin a recording and then put your phone away or leave it hidden somewhere, and return to it later. The recording can be as long as you have the battery power for.

Group Video Call

You start or join a group call with anyone in your contacts list. You choose whether to use video, or audio only. Up to 10 people may join the call at once.

Discharge: 4% per minute

Recharge

You connect a disccharged electronic device to a portable power source. After one hour, the device is fully recharged and one use of the portable power source is expended.

The laptop can be used to recharge smaller electronics such as cell phones. The laptop loses 1% charge for every 3% gained by the target device.

Hack

You attempt to exploit weaknesses in the security of an electronic device or system, or if you already have access to the system, you attempt to gain elevated privileges. The GM decides when this check is necessary. You may access the device physically, or remotely via the appropriate equipment.

Make a Hack (Technology) check and add your knowledge of Computer if applicable. The difficulty depends on the complexity of the target system and the level of access you're trying to gain.

Assistance: Helpers make a Hack (Technology) check.

Success: Your access to the device increases to the desired level. Your exploit may leave behind evidence, but only a trained security expert would be able to find it.
Critical Success: Your access to the device increases to the desired level, and you're confident that your exploit leaves behind no evidence.
Failure: The system rejects your attempts and may create a log of the incident that could incriminate you later, but doesn't immediately sound an alarm.
Critical Failure: The system generates an alert that its owners can trace to your location.

Play Game

You spend one hour playing a video game on your advanced smartphone or computer during a rest. Doing well in the game gives you a temporary boost to your coordination and mental ability. Make a difficulty15 Gaming (Technology) check.

Service: Full

Discharge: 25% per hour

Success: You gain Rested 1. You can benefit from this effect only once per day.
Critical Success: You gain Rested 2.
Failure: You don't gain any benefits.
Critical Failure: You become frustrated and can't sleep for the next three hours.
