The Assassin focuses on becoming a deadly hitman, using their Sneak Attack skill to eliminate key targets before they even know they're there.
Starting at Level 8 when you choose this archetype, add your Proficiency Bonus to attack rolls for your Sneak Attack ability. Your Proficiency Bonus increases with your level according to the Investigator table.
At Level 12, you've learned the art of striking and dashing out of sight in an instant. After a successful sneak attack, you can hide as a free action.
You use the element of surprise to get the drop on your enemies. Starting at Level 16, while sneaking and fully hidden, you can Ambush as an action to initiate combat. When you do, any number of allied creatures who are also sneaking and fully hidden can join in the ambush as well. You and every other creature that joins in the ambush gets a +10 circumstance bonus to their Initiative roll and one additional action frame during their first turn.
Your fighting strategy becomes more refined as you capitalize on your enemies' failures to keep their guard up. Starting at Level 20, you get a 1-frame opportunity attack against any creature whenever it moves out of your reach, or whenever you succeed on a Dodge check against one of that creature's attacks.
You've made a name for yourself and will undoubtedly be remembered as a fearsome killer. Starting at Level 26, whenever you hit with a Sneak Attack, you get a critical hit instead.

Your movement actions can't be reacted to and don't trigger opportunity attacks.
Prerequisite: Investigator Level 24, Backstab
When performing a Backstab attack, you can choose to Go for the Throat instead.
If you do, you have disadvantage on the attack roll. On a hit, the damage from the attack is quadrupled. The target must be 2 sizes larger than you or smaller.
