Carbon Steel is a raw material, used primarily in the making of weapons. It is a form of steel with high carbon content, which makes for a much stronger and sharper blade. However, carbon steel is somewhat brittle compared to ordinary steel, and is susceptible to corrosion.
Steel oxidizes when exposed to water. Whenever any carbon steel equipment is used or left outside in rain, the GM should call for a durability check on it. Carbon steel's material type does not change as a result of corrosion; however, it will continue to deteriorate and eventually break.

Broken carbon steel equipment can be salvaged to obtain Reclaimed Carbon Steel; however, carbon steel items that break due to rusting do not yield any salvageable materials. The number of units of raw material salvaged depends on the outcome of your check, and the size of the object you're salvaging.
