Downtime

Downtime is a period of extended resting in which a character or entire party spends an extended period of time away from the adventure. Downtime might be a period where a character returns home, a break between major events in an adventure, or something that puts them out of action unexpectedly, like a long-term injury or being sentenced to prison.

There are no actions associated with the downtime phase - you can summarize the events of entire days, weeks, or even years with a brief description or roleplaying session. The GM might call for an action check when needed. Downtime might be punctuated by roleplaying specific social interactions or side quests.

Downtime is typically assumed to take place in a safe, civilized environment where the character would have regular access to basic necessities and medical care. As such, a character that spends at least three days in downtime is assumed to be fully healed when they return to normal gameplay. All of their expendable resources are fully restored and all status effects are cleared.

Roleplaying Downtime

Players describe the activities their characters spend time on during extended downtime. A character might do some of the following:

The events of the entire downtime period can be summed up with a single check. The GM decides what type of check to make based on your downtime activities, and the degree of success you have over that period of time.
