Energy
Energy refers to the magical energy found in all humans that enables the casting of spells once a person has learned to use their subconscious to
understand and access the ability.
Any character with a caster level of 1 or higher has the ability to learn and cast spells, and has a pool of energy they must draw on in order to
perform magic. A caster's energy pool follows these rules:
- Casting a spell consumes energy equal to its energy cost. If the spell is amplified, the energy cost is always multiplied.
Energy is always consumed, regardless of whether the cast succeeds or hits its target.
- You can cast any spell you know as long as you have at least 1 point of energy. At 0 energy, you cannot declare spellcasting actions. Your energy total can never be negative.
- If a spell consumes more energy than you currently have, your energy is first depleted to 0 and you suffer necrotic damage equal to the difference.
This effect is known as magical exhaustion.
- Energy can be regained by resting. Each hour of sleep restores energy equal to your caster level. A complete long rest fully restores your energy.
Your Base Energy is determined by your caster level. Depending on your class, you may receive additional energy at each level.
