Summarized List: Environments
Changes in lighting conditions can affect your Perception by making some objects harder to spot.
Bright light is emitted by the sun, and by most interior electric lights. Items in brightly lit locations have their normal perception DC.
If you are facing directly toward source of bright light while making a check, you become Blinded.
Dim light is found in areas lit by weak light sources, such as flickering fluorescent lamps, candles, or tiny LED cell phone lights. It is also found where a source of bright light doesn't reach an area directly, under old street lighting with poor color qualities, and outside by the light of the moon.
The perception DC of any object in a dimly-lit location increases by 4. The GM may also apply a penalty to some checks that make use of your sight if you're attempting them in a dimly-lit area.
Complete darkness occurs in rooms with no light sources of any kind, or outside on a cloudy night, far from the lights of a city.
In darkness, you can't see anything without an artificial light source. You'll automatically fail any checks involving sight, and objects hidden in darkness can't be seen without a light source. While moving in darkness, you may move at half your speed to avoid running into objects in front of you.
Some sources of light, such as low-quality fluorescent lighting or colored signs, may give off Discolored light. This quality of light can be either bright or dim.
Discolored light allows you to see your surroundings without issue, but makes it harder to distinguish colors, which might make reading and seeing hidden objects harder.
While in a room lit by discolored light, the perception DC of any stationary objects increases by 4, but moving objects are unaffected.
