A melee weapon is any weapon that delivers damage by direct physical contact. Melee weapons are divided into three categories, based on their size and style of use.
One-Handed Damage: The damage dealt by a regular hit using the one-handed skill. (Light and Medium Weapons only)
Two-Handed Damage: The damage dealt by a regular hit using the two-handed skill. (Medium and Heavy Weapons only)
Power Attack Damage: The damage dealt by a regular hit using a two-handed power attack. (Heavy Weapons only)
Always add your Strength modifier to damage rolls with melee weapons.
Shield Rating: Melee weapons can be used to parry incoming melee attacks, but they do not effectively have a shield rating. When you parry an attack, always make a durability check against it.
Quality: Improving a melee weapon's quality modifies its damage.
When using something as a melee weapon that is not normally intended for such a purpose, the GM decides its type and stats. Improvised weapons that can be described as roughly fitting into one of the existing weapon classes can use the stats of that weapon class for the material it's made of. For improvised weapons that don't clearly fit into an existing class, the GM may create their own or reuse the stats from another class as they see fit.
