Summarized List: Status Effects
A resistance is a temporary or permanent status that reduces or completely negates the effects of a certain hazard for the affected creature.
It's possible for a creature to gain a resistance to any specific damage type, status effect, or environmental condition.
Maximum Level: 3
You gain a resistance to any specific type of damage. This reduction is calculated before the hit triggers any other events.
(A hit that would deal 10 or more Burning damage, but is reduced to 6 by resistance, will not ignite the target.)
Resistance 1: Damage that you would take of the affected type is reduced by 1, or by your Natural Armor rating if it's higher.
Resistance 2: Damage is reduced by your hit point increment.
Resistance 3: Damage is reduced by half, rounded down.
A resistance to a status effect can be seen as having a negative level of that effect. Each level of resistance you have cancels out one level of the status effect at the time you would receive it. This means if you have Poison resistance 2 and suffer Poisoned 3, you only gain one level of the effect even if you resistance wears off a moment later.
The maximum level of resistance to a status effect is equal to the maximum level of the effect itself.
Clothing and natural backgrounds might grant you resistance to either Extreme Cold or Extreme Heat. Each level of Heat Resistance or Cold Resistance causes you to experience the effects of an envirommental temperature one level cooler or warmer, respectively. This means Cold Resistance will actually exacerbate the effects of extreme heat, and vice-versa. Remember to wear the proper outfit!
