Travel is a point during the adventuring phase in which the party traverses a great distance in order to reach their next objective. The GM will usually summarize the events of long trips, unless the party wants to stop or detour, or encounters an obstacle along the way.
Players may also wish to roleplay interaction during parts of travel. Trips using vehicles may be counted as rests for everyone but the driver(s).
Creatures and vehicles each travel at their speed. When traveling on foot, a creature's typical walking speed in feet per frame is expressed in miles per hour instead.
For foot travel, the party moves at the speed of its slowest member. If the slowest member of the party has a speed of 3, for instance, then the party covers 3 miles in one hour of travel time.
Parties traveling on foot must stop to rest suffer a level of exhaustion every 6 hours. This exhaustion can be cleared by a resting period of at least 2 hours.
Non-powered vehicles require human effort to move. While these are sometimes faster than traveling on foot, they still cause exhaustion over time the same way foot travel does.
Powered vehicles typically have the fastest travel speeds. They allow everyone but the driver to rest during the trip, and usually have ample storage space for other supplies.
While this method is among the fastest, it always carries a small risk. The driver of a powered vehicle may experience an encounter that requires a careful maneuver, causing them to make a Drive (Reflex) save to avoid a collision.
Perhaps the safest method (usually) for long-distance travel is paying for transportation via public or private transit services. The Transportation Services table below describes the types of services that might be available and their prices.
Transit services don't allow you to store items permanently, and the party will likely be sharing a space with strangers which might make conversations during the trip difficult. Public transit services will also refuse to stop anywhere other than their predetermined destinations, making detouring impossible.
